3 - Preparation of the SPC / GF Racing SC2 continues, with a whole new group of volunteers who converged in Chicago for the Auto Show (photos & video can be seen in the event archive).  Since everyone was hanging around the SPC clubhouse anyway, they were eager to volunteer some of their time to work on the race car.

Kevin K removing asphalt

Kevin K armed himself with a heat gun and a scraper, and continued the attack on the asphalt mat that lined the floor.  It weighs the car down, so out it comes.  Add a few cans of brake cleaner and some help from Bryce A, and all that asphalt junk cleans up nicely.  The job was finally done.

Tapp, Kyle, and Jenny working on Tapp's motor

In our last garage day write-up, we had reported that the ITA motor build was complete and that the motor had been picked up from the machine shop.  Well, what we didn't tell you is that the motor was transplanted into Tapp's street-driven '92 SC for break-in.  He's been driving it the last couple of weeks to add the break-in miles before it goes into the race car.  (In fact, rumor has it that Tapp's car with the ITA motor even made a trip to the dyno this weekend to see what kind of numbers it produces...)  Above you can see Tapp, Kyle K, and Jenny getting Tapp's old motor ready to go back into his own car.

Brian J works on steering, suspension, and brakes

Brian J was put to work finishing up the engine compartment clean-up, and assisting with re-installation of the steering rack, front swaybar, and brake lines.

Taking a break

Tapp worked on the rear of the car, installing Energy Suspension poly bushings, and reinstalling the suspension - crossmember, lateral links, trailing links, swaybar hardware, and a rear disc/caliper setup (when formerly the car had rear drum brakes).  Alex P, Lane, Deebs, and Ben P were also working on other small projects here and there throughout the weekend.  It's great to see the car coming together, and it really makes the job go quickly when an enthusiastic group helps out.
