"How did this chat room come to be? Does it have an owner?" "Is the chat room available for use other than the scheduled times listed on this website?" "When I appear in the chat room, it's not using the nickname I entered on the login page. Why not?" "What is nickname registration and how do I do it?" "The applet on your website doesn't work for me. Are there any other Java-based websites I can use?"
"I've heard the phrase, 'You got hogged!' used on a
regular basis. What is the origin of this term?" "How did this chat room come to be? Does it have an owner?"
The chat room was created long ago (in Internet
years) when Charlie over at
SaturnFans decided
that Saturn enthusiasts needed a place to talk more interactively than they
could in a newsgroup, e-mail list, or message forum.
The Saturn Performance Club doesn't hold any
sort of formal "ownership" of the chat room. We do have scheduled
times where our members get together and take part in performance-oriented
discussions. But aside from that, it is available anytime to any
Saturn owners who would like to use it. "I'm a member of a different car club or Internet discussion forum. Are we able to participate or hold a chat of our own?"
We'd be honored if you'd
consider joining in on the chat during the already scheduled times.
Everyone will benefit from the added experience and points-of-view, and it
also makes for a more lively discussion when more people are present. "Is the chat room available for use other than the scheduled times listed on this website?"
Why yes, it is!
While we'd love it if you'd join in on our scheduled discussions (the more
the merrier!), you can also use it as a meeting place to talk to other
Saturn owners anytime you like. "When I appear in the chat room, it's not using the nickname I entered on the login page. Why not?"
Sometimes a nickname is
registered by someone else and only they can use it. Or, you may have
entered characters in your nickname that the server won't allow. If
you're left at the status window (indicated right next to the
private graphic on the bottom of the screen), you'll have to go back to
the login page and try a different nickname. If you made it into the
chat room (indicated by #saturnchat right next to the public
graphic at the bottom of the screen), you can change your nickname from the
Change Nick To box on the bottom right of the screen. "What is nickname registration and how do I do it?"
If you're a regular chat
participant on the server we use (irc.webmaster.com), you can register your
nickname so that it belongs to you, and nobody else can use it. To
register a nickname, make sure you're in the chat applet's status window (by
clicking to the status window indicated right next to the private
graphic on the bottom of the screen). From there, enter the following
command: "The applet on your website doesn't work for me. Are there any other Java-based websites I can use?"
You can also use the chat
applet from from
this
website. "A lot of the people in the chat room greet each other with the phrase, '98!'. What does this mean?"
You can read all about it
in our event archive
HERE.
See the description for the bottom photo. "I've heard the phrase, 'You got hogged!' used on a regular basis. What is the origin of this term?"
During our club's
2002 Rally,
this phrase was made popular by the
Saturn Motorsports guys who
were in attendance. It's a universal term that can be used for a
variety of situations, meaning cheated, shortchanged, dissed, owned, etc.
For some reason, it has stuck with us and gets used a great deal.
More entries will be added to this page on a regular basis. If you have any
Chat-related questions or
problems, please e-mail us
